Connect April 2021

KA Connect is a quarterly snapshot of our practice which includes recently completed projects, to ideas emerging from the studio, to critical issues on the built environment that concern us.

In this second issue, we are showcasing two large affordable housing projects. Both projects started with developing a master plan which was then developed to urban design guidelines and finally to built architecture. Both projects demonstrate our ability to work on large scale housing and translate a big vision to concrete built form. Also included in this issue are two projects which are in the process of design development and showcase the diversity of our portfolio.

There is also a small essay on our insights and approach towards sustainability, demonstrated through design principles that we apply to a variety of projects. In this toughest of tough years we would sincerely like to thank our clients, consultants and our dedicated team who have been extremely supportive both professionally and personally to tackle the challenges head on. We stand here at the beginning of a new financial year, more resilient than before, reinvented and reconstructed for a changed world with greater energy and confidence.

HDFC Bank Residential Training Centre

Palava

The firm won the commission to design this regional training center after winning a closed competition on 2019. The site is located as a part of a commercial sector at Palava- a new township on mumbai's outskirts. The program includes training rooms, classrooms, guest rooms and an auditorium.

News

Work is completed on Phase 1 at Joyville Virar.

The architecture of Joyville project at Virar sets outs to create a unique identity for this affordable housing project - distinctive details for balconies, colored massing elements, refuge areas as amenity decks and the energetic vibrant bright colors of the joyville brand!

Kiran Kapadia delivered a lecture to Amity School of Architecture & Planning, Mumbai on 13th February 2021.

The lecture was titled - "Narrative Hybrids: Generating an Architecture that goes beyond the pragmatics of program and site". The lecture was streamed live across all campuses of Amity University both in India and abroad.

Orbit Victoria, Kolkata close to completion.

Located right in the heart of the city,on very tight urban plot at Shakespeare Sarani, with all rounds views and only two units per level, this high luxury project, has a richly textured facade details and a unique personality with interesting combination of elements like triple height decks, large full height windows and metal screens.
