Bengaluru
The MAIA Pelican Grove residential project, located in north Bengaluru, is an example of how nature can be integrated into the spatiality of a home, seamlessly. This unique piece of land sits on the banks of Jakkur Lake, whose views and natural biodiversity is carefully considered while designing all spaces.
The central theme here is the manifestation of the house as an extension of the garden and the relationship of that garden to the lake. It explores the poetically intimate relationship between water, landscape and building-- truly a celebration where location and structure belong to one another.
The project is a 19 storeyed tower housing 36 apartments. The two units to a core plan helps to optimise the space and to ensure that each apartment receives ample sunlight and cross-ventilation. This also helps place all the main rooms of the apartment on the periphery to maximise the views. Airy living areas and lavish bedroom suites flow into expansive decks which wrap around the building. The luxury quotient of the project is enhanced by private jacuzzi in the deck area and toilets which open out into outdoor shower areas.
The language and elements of the façade also derive inspiration from the context. The fluid & organic form of the decks are a metaphoric representation of the waves of the lake. The bold natural tones of wood and stone evoke understated luxury. Screen elements on the façade are designed to enhance the connection between the built form and the natural environment outside.
The amenities are located at the ground and terrace top, which enjoys unfettered and spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. The landscape of Pelican Grove regards the lake, and its innate flora and fauna is its source of inspiration.
