Essar Office Tower

Mahalaxmi

The Essar office tower is meant to step into the shoes of its iconic predecessor, the Essar House, which was the first curtain glazed building to dot the Mumbai skyline in the early nineties. It is a self-use building meant to house the head offices of the various Essar Group companies. With uninterrupted views of the Golf Course to its west and the Racecourse to its north, extending to the Arabian sea beyond, it enjoys some of the most enviable views and vistas the city has to offer.

Being the headquarters of a leading business house and the architectural legacy that it inherited meant that the design of the new tower needed to make a form-based statement while adhering to an environmentally responsible design philosophy. Designed as a LEED Platinum rated building, it incorporates innovative measures in façade design to integrate solar energy generation.

The building sits on an extremely tight site of approximately 15,000 square meters. The core and service areas wrap around the southern and eastern perimeter, insulating the building and reducing heat gain. The northern façade expressed as a glass box, while maximising the views of the racecourse allows the entire floor plate to be lit by glare free north light. Generous green terraces punctuate the east face of the building, offering uninterrupted views of the sea while lending the building its distinctive identity.
